It may appear that many of the following experiments have been completed. However, in most cases, only a small part of the total potential has been explored. If interested in any of these projects, or if you wish to submit more of your own, go to the Registration Page.
Beach Erosion usually occurs when the waves hit the shore at an angle and relentlessly move the sand up or down the beach to finally settle in the openings of channels or rivers. Measurement of the movements of the sands can usually be done rather easily by placing lines of colored sand both perpendicular and parallel to the shoreline, and then watching the rate at which the colored lines move relative to the starting lines that can be marked by stakes driven deep into the sand. Soil Microbiology versus Overlying Vegetation. The whole realm of soil microbiology is rather undefined and virtually wide-open for study.
Biodegradation or "bioremediation" is a process that is fundamental to preserving the environment. This particular unit is one that a whole classful of students can participate. The projects usually take about a month to complete.
